In my previous blog, I pointed out that clear-cutting is not the same as responsible logging. Clear-cutting is kind of like Mountaintop Removal. We need timber and coal but there are ways to obtain these resources which do not involve killing off all life within another section of the planet. Just because it can be justified economically in the short run for those individuals and companies who directly profit from raping the Earth, does not mean the rest of us should remain silent and therefore complicit in these crimes. “California and the federal government are removing dams in the Battle Creek watershed to restore the salmon fishery while the state’s department of forestry and fire protection (CalFire) is permitting industrial clear cutting in the watershed. Sierra Pacific has filed 16 plans to clear cut 20,000 acres in the watershed.
